Overview:

We’re looking for a Fisheries Biologist to join Palmer’s Natural Resources team. We are seeking a candidate who has broad experience studying aquatic ecosystems, is flexible, and willing to work for extended periods in the field.

Palmer was founded in 2010 to provide project direction and technical scientific services to support the environmental assessment and permitting process associated with mining, energy, municipal infrastructure, and land development projects. What You’re Responsible For:

  • Design and implement aquatics and fisheries field programs and monitoring studies.
  • Lead fisheries/aquatics field programs in remote locations (up to several weeks per year)
  • Write reports and making recommendations.
  • Additional responsibilities may include preparation of Environmental Assessments, proposal writing, and project management.

What We’re Looking For:

Required:

  • The ideal candidate has a strong background in fisheries science, familiarity with BC fish species, fish sampling and habitat assessment methods, and experience with environmental legislation and permits.
  • 5+ years experience;
  • Registered Professional Biologist (R.P. Bio), or immediately eligible;
  • Experience with fish sampling methods and equipment, fish habitat assessments;
  • Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Territorial environmental permitting, regulations and guidelines;
  • Flexibility to travel for fieldwork;
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence;
  • Valid electrofishing certification;
  • Ability to manage personal project workload and meet deadlines;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • ATV/UTV/Argo Safe Operations certification;
  • CABIN certification;
  • Positive, hard-working personality who is a problem-solver and enjoys working in a team-friendly, collaborative environment;
  • Familiarity with mine permitting and fisheries offsetting would be an asset;
  • Interest in pursuing new projects and building a practice/service area within Palmer; and
  • Project management experience.
