Overview:

We’re looking for a Hydrologist (or Water Resources Scientist) to join Palmer’s Hydrotechnical Team based in Western Canada to support our group’s expanding involvement in hydrology, climate, and water resources projects.

What You’re Responsible For:

  • Performing baseline hydrological and climate studies for projects across Canada.
  • Establishing and overseeing hydrometric and meteorological monitoring networks.
  • Managing and processing hydrology, hydraulic, and climate data.
  • Rating curve development and statistical analyses of hydrological and climate data.
  • Preparing technical memorandums and reports
  • Developing workplans, budgets, and proposals.
  • Work collaboratively across offices and disciplines.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and supervision to junior staff.

What We’re Looking For:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., physical geography, forestry, geology, water resources engineering).
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in hydrology/water resources.
  • Experience with hydrological and hydraulic modelling.
  • Understanding of appropriate statistical techniques for analyzing environmental data.
  • Prior experience with relevant industry software, such as AQUARIUS, GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP, or Raven.
  • Proficiency with R, Python or other applicable programming languages for processing and managing large datasets and for statistical analyses.
  • Experience with hydrometric station installations, weather station instrumentation, and different streamflow measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to travel to remote areas safely and efficiently to undertake fieldwork

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in relevant geoscience or engineering discipline
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or other relevant professional association.
  • Understanding of instream flow assessment methods (e.g., SEFA, River2D).
  • Familiarity with environmental flow needs legislation.
  • Demonstrated work experience in mining and hydropower sectors.
  • Hydrogeology, geomorphology, ecology, and/or channel restoration experience.
  • Environmental permitting and approvals experience.
  • Experience with topographic and bathymetric surveying techniques and equipment.
  • Project management experience.
