Water Resources Specialist (Entry)

Overview:

We’re looking for a Water Resources Specialist to join Palmer’s Hydrotechnical team. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in hydraulics, hydrology, and fluvial geomorphology and interest in or experience with stream restoration, river systems, natural sciences, and aquatic ecosystems.

What You’re Responsible For:

  • Collect, compile, manage and assess hydrology, hydraulic, climate, and geomorphological data
  • Contribute to fluvial geomorphology and open-channel hydraulic assessments
  • Supporting the design of natural and engineered channels
  • Hydraulic modelling of natural and engineered channels
  • Technical report writing
  • Work collaboratively across offices and disciplines

What We’re Looking For:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant geoscience or engineering discipline (e.g., physical geography, geology, water resources engineering, environmental engineering)
  • 2+ year of relevant work experience (co-op experience will be considered)
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software
  • Working knowledge of the principles of natural channel design
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • The ability to travel to remote areas safely and efficiently to undertake fieldwork

 Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in relevant geoscience or engineering discipline
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership, with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • In-depth knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D and GIS software
  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulic modelling software (e.g. HEC-RAS)
  • Experience with habitat restoration and natural channel design
  • Construction and post-construction monitoring experience
  • Proficiency with R, Matlab, Python or other applicable programming languages
  • Familiarity with total station and RTK GPS survey methods
  • Hydrometric instrumentation and data collection
  • Prior experience with proposal writing and/or project management
  • Environmental permitting and approvals experience
