Project Description

Palmer worked alongside Morrison Hershfield, Yukon Energy Corporation and Champagne and Aishihik First Nations to provide baseline geomorphological characterization upstream and downstream of Aishihik Generating Station, a hydroelectric facility located in southwestern Yukon. This project informed decisions for ongoing relicensing initiatives and planning.

Our geomorphologists examined how the lake shoreline has responded to climate change and regulated fluctuation in water level, assessing the effect of lake filling, draw-downs, climate change, and permafrost thaw on historical villages and archaeological resources.

Additionally, we documented fluvial geomorphological adjustments before and after the construction of the dam using historical aerial photographs, field programs and sediment transport modeling to further our understanding of how the downstream watercourse has become progressively less sinuous and wider in recent decades.
