Project Description

Palmer was engaged by Brook Valley Homes and Blackwood Partners to complete hydrogeological, ecological and arborist studies in support of applications for Official Plan Amendment (OPA), Draft Plan of Subdivision and Zoning By-law Amendment related to a proposed mixed-use development in the Township of King, Ontario. The site is on the Oak Ridges Moraine, which supports Provincially Significant Wetlands (PSW). The features and functions of these wetlands required careful assessment to ensure they are maintained post-development.

The lands support a variety of natural heritage features, including the King-Vaughan PSW Complex, Significant Woodlands, Significant Valleylands and a Significant Groundwater Recharge Area. The site is also located within the provincial planning areas associated with the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Due to the range of environmental considerations on the site, Palmer conducted on-going consultation with associated regulatory agencies. Our work aided the establishment of a concept plan aligned with the development goals of Brook Valley Homes and Blackwood Partners and also aims to protect and enhance the existing natural heritage system of the site.
