Project Description

Palmer was hired to manage the fishway at the BC Hydro Site C Clean Energy Project and develop Standard Operating Procedures for its successful operation. The site is a hydroelectric generating station located along the Peace River, the migratory path of Bull Trout, which is a species of special concern in Canada. To minimize the dam’s impact on the migration of Bull Trout, Peace River Hydro Partners built a fishway that allows the safe collection and transport of fish from one side of the dam to the other.

The annual program runs from April to October, during which Palmer’s live-in team provides on-site support collecting, identifying, tagging, and transporting the fish. The program has successfully transported over 2,500 fish since September 2020.
