Project Description

Palmer was retained by Brook Valley to complete an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for a proposed 1,333-unit residential development on the west side of Brooklin, a key community for residential growth in the Town of Whitby, Ontario.
The property includes West Lynde Creek, which supports habitat for Redside Dace, a federally protected minnow species.

Our ecologists submitted an EIS as part of the Draft Plan of Subdivision approval process. A critical component of the project was obtaining an Overall Benefit Permit (OBP) under the Endangered Species Act for development activities within Redside Dace habitat. Findings from the OBP suggest the portion of West Lynde Creek related to the property will be greatly enhanced by the proposed transition from agricultural use to a naturalized corridor including restoration of the creek’s riparian zone.
